These facilities have helped in the accurate diagnosis and the treatment of patients. Xi'an Jiaotong University is one of the leading hospitals in not only the northwest part of China but in the entire country.
The entire northwestern China consists of only one children hospital, the Xi'an Children's hospital. It is the leading children's hospital and features surgical care, preventive health care, education, rehabilitation, and scientific research in not only Xi'an but in the entire Shaanxi Province. Yan'an hospital of the Communist Party of China Central Committee has been converted into Xi'an Children's Hospital which was established in the year 1939. However the present children hospital has also undergone many reforms and changes since its establishment on 1st September 1959 with the prior permission of the Government of the Province of Shaanxi. The Ministry of Health upgraded the hospital to a 3rd Level A-Grade hospital in the year 1997 and gave it the honorable title of a Municipal Model Unit.
The total land area of the hospital is approximately 110.7 Mu (where 1 Mu is equal to 1/6 acres). Out of the total land area, 87.86 Mu is only available for medical services purpose. In the hospital there are 9 OPD's (Out Patient Departments), 16 Clinical Departments and 10 departments for medical inspection. The total bed capacity of the hospital is 800 although, only 562 beds remain available. The total numbers of OPD patients treated till now were 450,000 with approximately 20,000 inpatients.
